Piles

Piles, also known as hemorrhoids, are swollen blood vessels located in the rectal and anal area. They can be classified into internal and external types. Internal hemorrhoids occur inside the rectum and are generally not visible, while external hemorrhoids develop around the anal opening and can be seen and felt.

Common symptoms of piles include itching, discomfort, bleeding during bowel movements, and swelling around the anus. They can be caused by various factors such as chronic constipation, straining during bowel movements, prolonged sitting, or pregnancy.

Treatment for piles typically starts with conservative measures, including dietary changes to increase fiber intake, increased fluid consumption, and over-the-counter medications to relieve symptoms. For more severe cases, procedures such as rubber band ligation, sclerotherapy, or surgical removal may be necessary.

A consultation with a healthcare provider is essential to determine the appropriate treatment and to rule out other conditions that may mimic piles. Early intervention can significantly improve symptoms and quality of life.
